My first experience with WordPress - the challenges!

WordPress is a free blogging platform and hosting service which begins with a free sign up with in-built purchasing options. It is perfect for bloggers at all levels of experience, provided they're willing to invest a little time upfront to learn the ins and outs of the system.

In my experience, I found myself having to begin over an over again due to the website continuously asking if I wanted to upgrade and gave me no other option to continue without purchasing a widget. The misleading information advising it would provide be free to you with the basics service is misguided due to the little you can actually do without upgrading through purchases. I spent most of my time searching for how to implement these widgets than putting all my energy into the website as a whole.

Another issue I found was the navigation on the website was to complicated and time consuming. This was a big frustration for me which continued to happen with almost every idea I tried to introduce. The idea is there but the site really needs to become user friendly for the people that aren’t very computer savvy.

On the hand I found the general idea of the website to be an excellent idea and feel it would be amazing for someone to learn how to build a website or blog. You can see a lot of thought has been put into the site and as if every angle thought of.  As I raised earlier the only issue is it needs to be dumb down for the general person that doesn’t understand the world of web design.

Reviews

Site builder report: You’ve probably heard of Wordpress before. It’s a popular CMS used for building websites. A CMS is not a website builder. A CMS is usually more sophisticated and much more technical— which means a steeper learning curve. Wordpress.com is a service built on-top of Wordpress that tries to offer a website builder experience on top of the Wordpress CMS— to mixed results.

Fit small Business: WordPress is not for the faint of heart. I consider myself pretty tech-savvy, and it took me several hours to feel like I was starting to be comfortable. However, for me, there was as much of a WordPress learning curve.

Website builder Expert: While with WordPress, you can have access to thousands of different tools and plugins to help improve your website, you should be aware that a significant number of these WordPress tools may not be built by good developers.
